What does specifying origin, grade and destination change?
A written specification fixes grade, moisture and residue standard in the contract instead of inheriting them from whichever lot was available on the open market that week. The eight steps from origin partner to container show where the grade, moisture, residue and packing terms are set.

Origin partners
Named origin partners across the Fujian origins — Fuding (Ningde) and Zhenghe (Nanping) for white; Pinghe (Zhangzhou), Anxi (Quanzhou) and Wuyishan (Nanping) for oolong; Tongmu (Wuyishan) and Fu'an for black; Ningde, Quanzhou and Fuzhou for green; Fuzhou for jasmine. The producing party and its relationship to ODM Tea are named in the quotation.
Sorting, screening to size, stalk and fibre removal, and firing to the contract moisture. This is the step that turns a garden lot into a grade, and it is where sourced gunpowder and Chunmee are brought to the written contract specification.

Where the contract names an approved sample, the lot is cupped against it: dry leaf, liquor colour, aroma and infused leaf. The contract should state that a lot which does not match is not shipped under that grade code.

Where testing is included in the quotation, moisture, ash and broken content are measured, plus a pesticide residue panel specified against the destination jurisdiction rather than the origin standard. The contract names the laboratory and when the report is issued.

Where a buyer contracts a fixed cup across shipments, lots are blended to hold that cup rather than shipped as single lots. This is the practical answer to seasonal variation in an agricultural product.
Commercial invoice and packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate and health certificate, plus a residue report and certificate of analysis where testing is contracted. FOB, CFR or CIF for sea freight, with Ningbo or Shanghai confirmed in the quotation; rail via Khorgos–Altynkol is quoted under a rule for any mode of transport.

Five of the lines are Fujian-origin categories — white, oolong, black, green and jasmine — with the producing partner named in the quotation. Two are sourced from outside Fujian and labelled with their origin: gunpowder and Chunmee are Zhejiang and Anhui teas. Two are programmes scoped per quotation: Organic Programme and Private Label & Packing. Fujian ships two thirds of China's oolong tea exports and ranks first in China for scented tea exports, which is why the origin track sits there.
Where a fixed cup is written into the contract, lots are blended to the approved sample rather than shipped as single lots. Tea is an agricultural product with seasonal variation, so a fixed cup across shipments comes from blending, not from finding an identical lot twice.

Where testing is included in the quotation, the contract names the accredited laboratory and a panel specified against the destination jurisdiction. It should also require the report before loading rather than with the shipping documents, because a report that arrives with the container cannot prevent a rejection.

Bulk into multiwall paper sacks or cartons at the contract net weight, and retail packing into units of 3 kg or less. Retail packing changes the HS subheading from 0902.20 to 0902.10, or from 0902.40 to 0902.30, and brings the destination's labelling law into scope.

FOB, CFR or CIF for sea freight, with Ningbo or Shanghai confirmed in the quotation. Central Asia is quoted by rail through the Khorgos–Altynkol corridor under a rule for any mode of transport, because FOB, CFR and CIF are sea and inland-waterway rules.
