Bai Ya Qi Lan earns a place in a range because it gives a buyer the Anxi style with a distinct name and a protected origin of its own. Fujian ships two thirds of China's oolong exports, and almost all of that recognition sits on Tie Guan Yin. Bai Ya Qi Lan lets a range carry two southern-Fujian rolled oolongs that taste related but are legally and agronomically different teas.
What should the contract state?
Cultivar and county by name, then roast level. Because both teas share the rolled make and the amber liquor, a contract that says only rolled Fujian oolong can be filled with either. Naming Pinghe and Bai Ya Qi Lan, or Anxi and Tie Guan Yin, closes that gap; roast level decides the cup.
